Jim Smith is a founder and the president of Estec Engineering, which offers the service of Computer Troubleshooters. He has been working on , in, and around computers in one way or another since 1982. After graduating with an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Davis in 1981, Jim worked as a field engineer for Schlumberger Well Services, an oil field services company. After working in various parts of the country Schlumberger sent him to Cut Bank, Montana in 1982. Jim first began fixing computers in desperate situations that can arise only in the remote oil fields of Montana. In 1984 Jim left the oil fields and moved to Bozeman, Montana we he attended Montana State University and earned a Ph.D. in 1988 and hired on as a faculty member in the Electrical Engineering Department. From 1988 to 2002 he did research and taught in many areas including circuits, electronics, control systems, power systems, and computer architecture. He left the university in 2002 to concentrate on his engineering consulting business and also soon after started Computer Troubleshooters. Jim enjoys problem solving and finding simple and effective solutions to complex problems. Jim is very proud to be of service to the small business community in Bozeman Montana.
